Extensive testing in the laboratory and on the road has proven that the service life of the HPE chain is at least as long, if not longer, than that of a conventionally lubricated Z-ring chain. A special feature of this chain is the coating with Tetrahedral Amorphous Carbon (ta-C), one of the most advanced coatings from the group of DLC (Diamond Like Carbon) coatings. This coating is applied to the surface of the chain's bushings and rollers and reduces energy losses while increasing efficiency in the secondary drive.

The very high hardness of the coated surface combined with a low coefficient of friction results in improved performance.
